The AngrA+ complex arose from a ancient building from 16th century, located in the center of the city of Angra do Heroísmo, within the privileged area of Unesco World Heritage Site. AngrA+ includes a main house, which is a unique, secular, classified and protected historic building, and includes a new ground floor construction integrated in the outdoor surrounding space, overlooking the edge of the land and facing an unobstructed view to the ocean and the city landscape. (Architectural Project: SCC Arquitectos; Landscape Architecture Project: Baldios Arquitetos Paisagísticos). AngrA+ has an outdoor space of 900 sqm with a panoramic view of almost 180 degrees, unique and stunning, extending from Monte Brasil to the islet of Cabras. It bends over the rooftops and churches of the city of Angra do Heroísmo, with the sky and the Atlantic as the horizon. The partnership of architects 'SCCS Arquitectos' and 'Baldios Arquitetos Paisagistas' proposed the rehabilitation of the existing secular property with the functional articulation of a new building, with modern lines but fully integrated in the environment. Considering the unique and fabulous location overlooking the magnificent city of Angra do Heroísmo, extreme care was taken to minimize the visual impact on it. The project had to be revised several times and adjusted in order to preserve the ancient findings from the 16th and 17th centuries that were identified during the rehabilitation works, such as stone oratories, carved niches, stone arches and several dressed stones that were included in the space, resulting in a contemporary space full of history. The landscape recovery of the surrounding garden explored the 4 dimensions of Water, Fire, Earth and Air. Conservation of existing flora, which is predominantly autochthonous, reconstruction of traditional stone walls, and use of regional materials such as basalt and cryptomeria were preferred. Apartments Angra+ has 6 apartments of various layouts, in which the largest may accommodate up to 6 people. All have an exclusive outdoor space with table and chairs. It has 40sqm and an ancient stone arch imposed, sign of an expansion of the original building from the 17th century. This studio has a large and exclusive balcony with additional 17sqm including table and chairs to enjoy the view over the garden, the city and the sea. Apartment 02, of the ancient kitchen This studio apartment has an independent entrance from the main building and can accommodate up to 2 people. It has 35sqm in an open and wide space, corresponding to the ancient kitchen of the building. It has a private terrace with additional 23sqm including table and chairs to enjoy the view over the Monte Brasil. Apartment 03, of the oratories This one-bedroom duplex apartment has 51sqm and may accommodate up to 4 people (queen size bed and sofa bed). The high ceiling living room with sofa bed is dictated by the presence of 2 oratories dating from the 16th century, whose discovery during the rehabilitation works were surprising. The bedroom with a queen size bed is located on the top floor and has a window with a breathless scenic view. The apartment has an exclusive terrace with additional 17sqm with table and chairs for you to enjoy the sea and city landscape. Apartment 04, of the niches This one-bedroom apartment has 57sqm and may accommodate up to 4 people (queen size bed and sofa bed). The bright living room stands out for the presence of 2 carved niches from the 16th century that have remained walled up and hidden until the 2022 restoration. In the bedroom you may see where the structure of the ancient stone house. It has an exclusive terrace with an additional 14sqpm with table and chairs to appreciate the view over the sea, the city and the garden. Apartments 05 and 06, of the new building These two-bedroom symmetrical apartments are part of a new building, located close to the pool area. Each has an area of 77sqm and may accommodate up to 6 people (one queen size bed, 2 single beds and one sofa bed). These apartments stand out for their glass fronts over the city of Angra do Heroísmo and the sea. Each one has its own interior garden, but also exclusive outdoor spaces with table and chairs to enjoy the panoramic landscape.
