Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this very unfavorable review of my bed & breakfast in Sligo. The visit of Michael and his wife is very clear in my memory, although it was 6/7 months ago, and the delay in the response is due to only finding the reviews, a few days ago. I apoligise to them both, for the bad experience on their visit to Sligo, to spend with their daughter, over the Christmas period. Michael’s daughter had viewed the bedrooms that may have suited her parents, previous to their arrival, and it was agreed that they should have the bigger room on the first floor. On their arrival, 21/12/2008, it was abundantly obvious, that they were unhappy with the whole situation. An Cruiscin Lan, is a family operated bed & breakfast, situated in a town house, in the city centre. After checking-in, and viewing the room, he was not pleased with the price, so I enquired what price did he think was suitable, and we agreed to take €100 off the total price. Recent Review 12 Jun 2009. “My room was inviting and i slept well. Liam was very welcoming and his breakfast was great, no complaints. Great value for money for a stay in sligo without paying for expensive hotel rooms with rooms not with homely feel. The location is within town centre.” In the morning, at breakfast, he expressed his dissatisfaction at the choice on the menu, he did not like typical Irish cooked breakfast, of pork, eggs or fish. So I suggested, I would supply different cheeses & yogurt. For most of the stay he chose boiled eggs. In one review, he mentioned the breakfast was bland. Yes, boiled eggs could be described as bland, but that was his choice. There is no excuse for serving burnt toast. After breakfast, we discussed the heating system, and I explained to him, the heating was set to start 1700 & off at 2400. Start again in the morning at 7030 & off at 1030. I did not have the heating on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week like a hotel. He was not happy with the room. He moved to a different room, which has three beds, on the second floor, where it was possible to regulate the heating system to 24 hours a day. I supplied him with an electric fan heater, that he could control himself. He was unhappy with the continental quilt covers and requested blankets, which I supplied. The furniture in those rooms, was purchased as new, in October 2007, and could not be described as inferior. The furniture, atmosphere and choice of drinks in the bar are an illusion in his mind, as there is no bar facility on the premises. The furniture and atmosphere in the Breakfast room are appropriate to the style of building, but everyone has their own opinion, which should be respected. Yes the weather in Ireland during the winter months can be bleak, damp with short daytime light & dark long evening & nights. To conclude, I tried everything I could to make things better for their stay with me, I was unsuccessful. An Cruiscin Lan Bed & breakfast, did not comply with the needs of Michael & his Partner, but it does comply for lots of other visitors. Recent Review 25 May 2009 “I've staying at the An Cruiscin Lan over a few occasions, and I wouldn't think twice about staying there again. It's all very good! Very friendly, lovely rooms, great breakfast and the location couldn't be better. I give it my best recommendation!!” Sorry about the burnt Toast. Regards Liam Mc Gettigan.
