Guest House The Lodge

The Lodge - the perfect Guest-house for our one night stay in Swindon. 5 minutes with a Taxi from the Swindon Train station. Swindon is about one hour west of London Paddington on the train (or the Motorway) towards Bristol and Cardiff. Very friendly and helpful staff. The Lady had called me at home the day before to ask about our planned arrival time from London Heathrow Airport to assure that she would be there when we arrived in Swindon. Typical English town house, in the middle of the town Swindon with a nice view over the roof tops, because we got the room right on top! Quiet for a city dwelling! But of course we had to climb up there over narrow stairs, (which in itself I did not vote negatively, because that is normal in such a small and older Victorian house) but that's why I choose to vote not very suitable for a disabled person - of course it depends, they have other rooms on the first and second floor too. Our room was not very large, (again - that is perfectly normal for such a type of older, Victorian town house and B&B accommodation!) but sufficient, with en suite bathroom, everything very beautiful furnished and decorated, real comfy, beds excellent. About 3 minutes walk from the Lodge is a superb Indian Restaurant, called The Jewel in the Crown, look on the net, they have a homepage. Although we came late in the evening, tired, in travel clothes, (the other guests looked finely dressed up); without reservation, and only asking for a light, mild curry meal, my daughter and I were treated like - well, like royalty. Superb food, excellent cuisine, very friendly service. We loved it! Next morning, the breakfast in the Lodge was delicious, full English Breakfeast, or one could choose a slimmed down version, like just eggs, but no bacon for example.
