The Constantine Hotel

I stayed in this hotel with a group of fellow students during a winter seminar in Istanbul for a week.The hotel is very close to all the major tourist attractions and if you are lucky enough, you might even get a room with a view to Topkapi palace, as some of my friends did. The rooms are good-equipped with everything you need and nice details, such as pictures of Istanbul. My bathroom needed some small renovation, but the ones of my friends' rooms in general were very good. We really liked our breakfasts, as the buffet includes variety of local dishes, cooked at the restaurant of the hotel, and includes everything one may want - from hummus and cheese to great Turkish pastry. The last and most important point to be mentioned was the staff, with true hospitality they helped us a lot around the city, recommending nice restaurants and a good hammam, and welcomed us with free Turkish tea or coffee at every time of the day and even late in the evenings, as we had our long talks in the lobby. Ask the reception about hammam, they recommended us a great non-tourist one, which was really good

My single room was not very big and faced the yard, it was equipped with TV, minibar, air-conditioner and phone. The bathroom was not very big, but OK for one person. The twin room of my friends facing the Topkapi had much better and more modern bathroom and was very spacious.

There is a nice restaurant in the hotel, which serves good typical Turkish food for very reasonable price. We also enjoyed a 10% discount as the hotel guests. The restaurant is decorated with traditional fabrics and pictures, all in all a very nice place to have a meal if you are tired of walking around the city.

We had no problem in communicating in English with the staff. They were very friendly and helped us a lot with our seven separate payments and receipts.

Location is very good, tram stop is in front of the hotel, if you need to go to Istiklal. Ayasofya and Topkapi along with the other mosques are in a walking distance. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops around and even a nice restaurant in the hotel itself.
