An den Ufern des Eyjafjördur erhebt sich die weiße Fassade der Kirche Akureyrarkirkja. In Akureyri dominieren die zwei weißen Türme das Stadtbild. Eine lange Treppe führt auf den Hügel hinauf und zur breiten Front der Akureyrarkirkja. Das Innere der Kirche ist von einer weißen Kuppeldecke geprägt und angenehm durch Glasfenster beleuchtet.
